Principal's Letter

Dear Trent Families,

Happy conference week to all our families. We are excited to have you come into school so that we can partner with you in your child’s education. In this addition of the newsletter, I want to highlight for you a new person we have starting here at Trent.

As of Friday, Maia Hay (Ms. Maia,) from Communities in School’s will have her last day for the remainder of the school year. Her title is Family Services Coordinator, where her primary goal is to provide the needed resources for our community. We will have a replacement for her, but it will only be for one day a week! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Just a reminder that starting April 1st is the start of Spring Break! We won’t have school until April 8th.

Brandon Dunn, Principal

Counselor's Corner!!

Hi Trent Knights!

As winter is going to change into spring, you find yourself asking, Could my student use more structure and routine? As children are growing it’s so important to give them structure and routine. This includes establishing bedtimes and wake up times. But why?

  • Coping Skills: Routines and consistency offer children reassurance especially in difficult or stressful situations. Having a routine can help children cope with challenges.

  • Success: Having a routine helps children develop healthy habits, responsibility, and learn time management.

  • Independence: Routines and structure gives children confidence in knowing what to expect. As they become more successful with their routines they gain further confidence and fosters independence.

  • Cognitive Development: Children need sleep and regular meals to be able to focus, think, read, learn, remember, and reason. When children receive consistent sleep (9-10 hours per night) and regular meals it allows for healthy brain development

We are continuing with small groups for students. Please never hesitate to reach out if there is an area you would like your child to get extra assistance with. We are also continuing to work on the Wax Museum with 6th graders where they are choosing a career to explore and do their project on. They will have the opportunity to present their career project at the end of the year during the Wax Museum.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
