Principal's Letter

Trent Community,

I’m excited to share some news that I hope will be as exciting for you as it is for me.  As many of you know, during a time when East Valley was transitioning to a K-8 school system, several of our elementary schools adopted the Knights as their mascot, which led us to become the Trent Knights—our identity for the past several years. However, at the beginning of the 2024/2025 school year, a group of students started a petition that gathered over 25 staff members and 200 students in support of switching our school back to its original mascot—the Trent Wildcats.

After careful consideration and discussions with Trent and district-level staff, I’ve decided to listen to the voices of our students and move forward with this change. Starting in the 2025/2026 school year, we will proudly be the Trent Wildcats once again, and our school colors will return to red, black, and white!

I’m currently working with a team to finalize our new branding, and I will share those details with students, families, staff, and the community as soon as they’re ready.

As always, if you have any questions or thoughts, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your support!

Mr. Rippee

Counselor's Corner!!

Hi Trent Knights!

Social media…screen time usage…it’s a battle that almost every parent is facing these days! With the evolution of electronic devices and social media platforms, it’s rare to see a child today without some sort of screen in their hand.

There are countless studies available giving us data as to the effects of excessive screen time use.

Screens, along with social media are in most homes today, so we are offering the following tips to help families balance time being spent online and offline, so our families and our children are able to stay safe while still enjoying that limited screen time!

  • Kids younger than 6 probably shouldn't play in virtual worlds. If your kids can't yet read or write, they'll be frustrated in online worlds. Instead, look for preschool games that were designed for children this age.

  • Set up accounts together. By creating usernames and passwords together, you can walk your kids through the basics of safe and appropriate online behavior.

  •  Keep the devices in a central place. This lets you or other family members guide your child as they play online.

  •  Review the apps and sites yourself. Make sure you check out apps and sites before you let your kids use them. Don't settle for the most popular apps, games, and sites. Look around for ones that appeal to your kid's interests or have an educational angle.

  •  Set time limits. Make sure online play is balanced with offline play and other activities that are good for your kid's physical, emotional, and mental health.

If you’re interested in finding out more about how to use screen devices and social media in a safe and balanced way, please visit:  https://www.commonsensemedia.org/

We are continuing with small groups for students. Please never hesitate to reach out if there is an area you would like your child to get extra assistance with.  We hold them one time per week during lunch/recess.

Take Me Out To the Ball Game!
