Inclement Weather

With snow in the immediate forecast, this is a reminder that our aim is to communicate with staff, students, and families about changes in normal school operations by 5:45 am. Closures and delays will be communicated using the following systems:

  • We will send automated emails, voice messages, and text messages.

  • We will announce closures and delays on our app, webpages, and social media. (Facebook & Instagram)

  • We will update our snow line which can be reached at 509.242.SNOW.

  • We will also inform local news organizations. (local media doesn’t always report accurately, please rely on district messaging)

When snow or inclement weather is in the forecast, we plan to monitor weather and road conditions at night and into the early morning hours.

  • The Transportation Director and staff drive roads and bus routes to assess conditions.

  • Maintenance staff begins snow removal efforts to clear roadways, parking lots, and sidewalks before students and staff arrive and throughout the school day. NOTE: Despite efforts, our schools may still experience icy spots, so please proceed cautiously!

  • Before deciding, Superintendent Talbott will work with our Transportation Director and others regarding road and route conditions.

Our goal is to keep schools open when it is safe!

PLCs

Our community supports 90 minutes of weekly collaboration time almost every Monday during the school year.  Thriving districts have a culture of continuous improvement, and post-pandemic, our staff has a sense of urgency in our practice as professionals. The collaboration that occurs in our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) is time spent on enhancing adult professional practice focused on the improvement of student achievement levels at every school, on every team, and in every classroom.

Research has shown the PLC concepts and related practice, if implemented fully and with fidelity, to be an effective approach for improving student learning.

  • It is research based.

  • It is relevant to our work as professionals.

  • It allows us to work together to ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum across the district.

  • It is the best structure for adult learning that’s relevant, job embedded, collective, ongoing, and specifically linked to school and team goals.

East Valley School District will continue to strive for improvement and is in the second of a three-year Professional Learning Communities training commitment with Solution Tree, an organization backed by years of research and expertise. Continued training from experts in the PLC process will ensure meaningful data-based collaboration that brings staff together to share best practice in service of our students.
