Community Thanksgiving

On Monday, November 20, 2023, East Valley School District hosted their first annual Community Thanksgiving. Included in the evening’s events were performances from EVHS’ Strolling Strings, games and activities, and a Community Pantry inclusive of over 25,000 items donated by staff. Approximately 700 meals were served. In addition to multiple staff and students who volunteered, this event would not have been made possible without the generous support of our donors, to include A-Z Rental, CHAS, Wagstaff, Stop the Silence, Clear Risk Solutions, The LDS Church, HydraFab, Kiwanis, Utecht Farms, and STCU. Together, we are East Valley!

Mark your calendars, next year’s Community Thanksgiving will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024.

Initiative for Student Wellness

We are excited to share some phenomenal news with you regarding support for our students. In partnership with the City of Spokane Valley, Spokane County, and NEWESD 101, we will soon be bringing some additional mental health support to our school district. This is completely paid for by Spokane County...so blessed and very grateful! The program called the Initiative for Student Wellness (ISW) is currently being used in the West Valley School District and will soon be here in East Valley as well as some additional districts in the region. The purpose of the program will be to screen, voluntarily and through a survey instrument, the mental and/or emotional wellbeing and needs of our students. Those who indicate the most significant need for support will be triaged and provided with counseling support should the student accept. In lieu of students and families having to go out and find counseling support, through the ISW initiative, some will be provided at the school and at no cost. I am certain there are many questions about ISW and what it will mean for your child. We are a few months out from implementing ISW at the high school; this will provide us with additional time to communicate with families. Though early, my interest in sharing this with you now is that I anticipate a Spokesman Review story about ISW in the very near future. As a part of that, East Valley will be at the forefront of the article. I felt you should hear about this from the district before reading or seeing it in the media.

Strategic Planning

Students, Staff, and Families...thank you for using some of your valuable time to respond to the district's strategic planning survey. We have just begun to comb through and pour over the 1,000-plus results provided; we are grateful for your input. We currently have three teams (one for each group of students, staff, and families) reviewing and categorizing the specific groups of responses. Those teams will continue to meet together to compare and share their findings. From there, we will take that information to larger groups for review and fine-tuning. During the seven months we have been engaging in this process, I have learned there are many, inter-reliant and moving pieces that shape and influence each step of the strategic plan. This survey is merely one of those steps on a long staircase. Again, thank you for your time, input, and patience as we work through each step.

Safety Updates

Because school safety is a priority, district leadership is working with our Educational Service District and First Responders to update our Emergency Operations Plans both district-wide and within each building. Moving forward, visitors to our schools may notice changes in our entry and exit ways. We will continue to strive for ways in which we can improve our safety measures and systems.  Training for administrators and staff will be conducted so we are best prepared in the event of a crisis.
